Tire Services

Tire sales, rotation, balancing, and flat repair to keep you safely on the road.

About This Service

Your tires are the only four contact patches connecting a two-ton vehicle to the road, and every bit of braking, cornering, and acceleration passes through them. That makes tire condition one of the most important — and most overlooked — safety factors on your vehicle. At Victor Auto Body Works we've kept Middletown drivers safely on the road since 1953, and our tire service reflects that safety-first, family-shop approach.

We sell and install new tires from all major brands, perform precision computerized balancing, rotate tires to equalize wear, and repair most punctures right in the shop. Every tire job includes servicing and resetting your TPMS (tire pressure monitoring) sensors and a full tread-and-pressure inspection. Because we're a complete mechanical shop, we can also spot the suspension and alignment problems that quietly destroy tires — if your tread is wearing unevenly, a wheel alignment often protects your investment far more than a new set of tires alone.

New England is especially hard on tires. Winter cold drops your pressure, road salt and slush demand real traction, and Connecticut's pothole season punishes sidewalls every spring. Whether you need dedicated winter tires for the season, an all-season set that balances year-round grip, or a fast flat repair before a road trip, our ASE Certified technicians will give you honest guidance and free estimates — never pressure to replace tires that still have safe, usable life.

Common Tire Concerns We Solve

Tires give you plenty of warning signs if you know what to look for. These are the issues drivers bring to us most often.

Uneven or rapid tread wear

Wear on one edge, cupping, or feathering usually points to alignment, inflation, or worn suspension parts. We diagnose the cause so a new set doesn't wear out the same way.

Vibration at highway speed

A steering-wheel or seat vibration that appears around highway speeds is often a balance issue or a bent wheel. Computerized balancing usually smooths it right out.

Recurring low-pressure warnings

A TPMS light that keeps coming back can mean a slow leak, a failing sensor, or seasonal temperature swings. We find the real cause rather than just adding air.

A flat or a nail in the tread

Many punctures in the tread area can be safely repaired in the shop. Sidewall damage generally cannot, and we'll tell you honestly which one you have.

Not sure it's time for new tires

We check tread depth, age, and sidewall condition and give you a straight answer. If your tires are still safe, we'll say so.

Winter and seasonal changeovers

We mount, balance, and swap winter and all-season sets, and reset TPMS as needed — important as New England temperatures drop.

Our Tire Service Process

From inspection to final torque, here's how we handle your tires.

01

Inspect tread, pressure, and sidewalls

We measure tread depth, check cold inflation against the door-jamb spec, and look over the sidewalls for cracks, bulges, or damage.

02

Diagnose the underlying cause

If wear is uneven or you feel a vibration, we check for alignment, balance, or suspension issues so the problem doesn't come back.

03

Repair, rotate, or replace

We repair eligible punctures, rotate tires to equalize wear, or mount new tires from a major brand matched to your vehicle and driving needs.

04

Computerized balancing

Each wheel is spun and balanced on our equipment to eliminate vibration and protect your suspension and steering components.

05

TPMS service and reset

We service the tire pressure monitoring sensors and reset the system so your dashboard warning reflects the real pressures.

06

Final torque and pressure check

Lug nuts are torqued to specification and pressures are set correctly before we hand the vehicle back and review our findings with you.

How Long Does It Take?

A rotation, balance, or single flat repair is usually a relatively quick visit, while mounting and balancing a full set of new tires typically takes longer, depending on your vehicle and how busy the shop is that day. Ordering a specific size or brand can add lead time, so it helps to call ahead for less common sizes.

As for replacement intervals, there's no universal number — tread wears at different rates depending on driving style, alignment, and rotation habits, and rubber ages even on low-mileage tires. Many manufacturers suggest inspecting tires closely once they pass roughly six years of age. Follow your owner's manual and have us inspect them periodically; you can book an inspection anytime.

What are the Signs?

Visible tread wear, cracks or bulges in the sidewall, vibration at highway speeds, frequent low-pressure warnings, tires older than 6 years.

What should I Check?

Insert a penny into the tread (if you can see all of Lincoln's head, tread is too low), check tire pressure cold with a gauge, inspect sidewalls for damage.

What should I Ask?

My tires are worn or vibrating, can you inspect them, rotate and balance, and recommend replacements if needed?

Tire Services FAQs

Check tread depth with the penny test — insert a penny into the tread with Lincoln's head down, and if you can see the top of his head, the tread is too low. Also look for cracks or bulges in the sidewall, and consider age; many manufacturers recommend a close inspection once tires pass about six years old. When in doubt, we'll inspect them and give you a straight answer.
It depends on where the damage is. Many punctures in the tread area can be safely and permanently repaired in the shop. Damage to the sidewall or shoulder, or a puncture that's too large, generally cannot be repaired safely, and we'll recommend replacement. We'll always tell you honestly which situation you have.
Rotation intervals vary by vehicle and tire type, and many owners rotate around the same time as an oil change as a convenient rule of thumb. Your owner's manual has the manufacturer's recommendation. Regular rotation equalizes wear and helps your tires last longer.
TPMS is your tire pressure monitoring system — the sensors that trigger the dashboard low-pressure warning. We service and reset TPMS as part of every tire job so the system reads your true pressures. Sensors can wear out over time and may occasionally need replacement.
It depends on your driving and comfort in snow. Dedicated winter tires provide meaningfully better grip in cold, snow, and ice than all-seasons, which matters on New England roads. Quality all-season tires are a reasonable compromise for many drivers. We can walk you through the trade-offs for your vehicle and commute.
A vibration that shows up around highway speeds is commonly caused by tire balance, a bent wheel, or uneven tire wear. Computerized balancing corrects most balance-related vibration. If it persists, we'll check for alignment or suspension issues, since those can create similar symptoms.
